Sharing Our Gifts

In as-much-as; God has blessed us with creativity, we are charged with sharing it with others. 1 Peter 4:10

Highway 1098 - Old Quicksand Road, better known as South Fork; is a rural highway in Eastern Kentucky. This is where my Grandparents, my Dad and several Uncles lived for many years. It is also where I spent much of my childhood and teenage years. I felt safe with my Grandparents, South Fork was a wonderful place to be. I have many memories of: The Old Country Store (pictured), the House on the Hill and the Creek beyond. Although some memories are sad, most are beautiful and happy. South Fork was my refuge and there I found myself, the person I wanted to become.

However, from the moment I set my gaze on the horizon, things began to change. Before long, I wanted to see what was beyond each horizon that I encountered.

And so it was; I spent nearly thirty years chasing horizons. Hardly ever, did I slowed down long enough to take a quick glance back over my shoulder. Some of the childhood and adult obstacles along the way were difficult to overcome. While, some paths led to unexpected friendships and wondrous discoveries, other paths took me along mind bending terrain with traumatic results.

Today, I sit and marvel at the beautiful sun rises, and sun sets on the distant horizons. The need to travel beyond those horizons has mostly faded away. Now, I spend much of my time with God and reflecting on all the places and people I have met along the way.

Since my very first poem/song lyrics in 1977, I have enjoyed writing. Though-out the years I have written many pieces, in various forms. My personal growth, spirituality, frame-of-mind and periods of mental crisis are apparent in the content of each.

I published a small book in April 2007, titled: A Life Chronicled in Poetry. This book contains most of my poetry, song lyrics, journal entries and short stories; a compilation of my writings since 1977. The book was published as a way of sharing my works with family and friends. Also, I felt it would be an appropriate legacy.

Upon receipt of the book, to my disappointment, I discovered many spellings, punctuation and errors in proper grammar. As I had opted to not pay for professional editing, I self-edited.  It became obvious I had made a critical error. I was and to this day, 'am embarrassed by so many simple errors. I had also included several writtings of a personal nature (For her eyes only). I sometimes wish I could "recall" the book.

Update: On 08 April 2025, my book was canceled. That is to say, "It has been taken out of print." Several days ago, I discovered the possibility of doing just that. And so, I sent a formal letter to the publishing company. My request was granted.

Although I continue to write, there is no interest in publishing another book. For this reason, I have created this Blog/Website. As I enjoy writing freely, no great care is taken with regards to punctuation or proper grammar.  So... be gentle with your critics.

It has now been fifty years since I first left South Fork to Travel Beyond the Horizon. During this time, much has happened in my life and in the lives of those close to me. Here upon these pages, my desire is to share with you, as originally published; "My Life and the Life's of others - Chronicled in Poetry."

Finally, I invite you to take a journey "Beyond The Horizon" through the pages of My Blog. Please enjoy the Poetry, Adventures, Short Stories, Reflections and more. Also, please consider becoming a follower and provide me with feedback. All comments and or suggestions are very much welcomed.

Note: The Blog name was changed on 31 January 2025. As there is a well-known Play named Beyond the Horizon, and several Blogs and Websites with the same or similar names. I do not want my Blog to have the same name.

Welcome to: 'The Horizon and Beyond'
